As our new officers begin their term, they were given the privilege to attend the Carlson Leadership Academy in San Mateo, CA. The Carlson Leadership Academy focuses on teaching officers skills to help them inspire brothers, manage a committee, and follow through on goals. Officers build a supportive cohort of brothers in their roles to network with throughout the year.

The trip lasted from January 27th to January 29th, our Executive board decided to split into two groups between two cars to get to San Francisco. We met up at campus around 9:30am and departed roughly around 10am. As you can imagine, a car packed full of brothers is always a good time and gives us a chance as an executive board to bond. Our car ride lasted around 8 hours and we arrived at the hotel around 5pm before dinner.

The highlight of CLA came during our awards ceremony dinner. California Mu was recognized as a Top 10 chapter when it came to raising money for founder’s day of giving. In addition to this, Cal Mu received the Benjamin-Hobson Frayser award for Excellence in Communication. The award was accepted by VP of Communications, Ryan Fogg. This award recognizes chapters/AVCs that foster a strong connection with their undergraduate brothers, alumni, parents and the university community through effective communication, including through newsletters, social media and their chapter site.
